Cliche Factory…Hey, “It Is What It Is”

How many of these statements have you heard before?

  • Grab the bull by the horns.
  • A watched pot never boils.
  • At the eleventh hour
  • There’s a silver lining to every cloud
  • Axe to grind
  • To many cooks, can spoil the broth
  • The writing is on the wall
  • Low man on the totem pole
  • Make no bones about it
  • Cut to the chase
  • You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink
  • Zigged when he should have zagged

What an interesting use of the english language!  Phrases like these are a popular form of expression and as you well know, the social networks are full of them.  Do you find them helpful or annoying?

In the “grand scheme of things”…if you want “my two cents”, “it is what it is”.  When you really “cut to the chase” and stop “beating around the bush”, you will see that they are designed to show you that “good things come to those who wait”.  So, if “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”, you’ll see that “where there’s a will there’s a way”.  Just make sure that “at the end of the day” you are not trying to just “keep up with the Jones’s”.  Remember, “always look on the bright side”.

Wow, that was exhausting.
