Artist and Athletes

Some Of Our Greatest Started Here

There is nothing more elegant than watching a Ballerina turn…nothing like the excitement of watching someone hit a home run when the game is tied and the count is 3-2…nothing like hearing a piano solo from a child prodigy.  There truly is nothing that encourages, inspires and provides opportunities like the arts and athletics.

…do I hear every year that schools have arts and athletics programs on the budget chopping block?  Think about the alternative for just a second.  What if little Johnny didn’t have an outlet for his pent up energy?  What if little Cindy didn’t have anywhere to dance?  What if little awkward Jeffrey didn’t have someone to teach him how to play piano?  Little Johnny just might hit the streets for a life of crime, because school bores him.  Cindy just might end up pregnant because she has no focus and awkward Jeffrey may end up doing harm to himself because he has no where else to fit in!

I Would Not Be Who I Am Without Athletics

Stories like this happen everyday for kids that don’t have opportunities.  So, why would we even put these programs on the table every year?  Find the money…

Well said. As the parent of an 8 year-old and 11 year-old, my hope is to raise well-balanced children with skills and talents beyond just booksmarts. Arts and athletics are essential to success later in life.

You have done a great job thus far Karen. Balance is key and without arts or athletics, we lose a little bit of that opportunity to achieve balance. Thanks for reading!

Funny, we were just talking about this after watching “So You Think You Can Dance”. Many of these very talented kids really needed the arts to survive.
The people cutting the arts budgets need to think about what life would be like without movies and Television. Many of us use these as outlets to get away from the stress of life. Where do they think Movies and Television comes from? Hmmm.. Could they be made from artists???

We did discuss this and I think it inspired me to open up the topic. Many individuals would be lost without either. Thanks for reading.

If I were able to choose where my tax dollars are focused in public schools, it would be on the arts, not paying for stupid, mind-numbing practice drills for standardized testing.

I agree Karuna! Rote norms are not what creates free thinkers. The type of free thinkers that start new businesses or who achieve greatness in the arts. It really is VERY IMPORTANT to keep these programs in every community and every school. Thanks for reading.
